12,500 Kenyans recieve Food
Over 12,500 people in Kenya have received necessary food items to survive the worst drought in over 60 years.
The UN estimates over 11.5 million people are on the verge of starvation in East Africa. The Kenya Red Cross estimates more than 2 million people in Kenya are in need of emergency food supplies or they will become part of the ever-increasing number of casualties caused by this latest famine.
In Kenya the program is currently helping to feed, 17 community centres, 4 secondary schools, 2 community schools, and over 2,500 families in rural areas. All the families, community centres and schools are fed for the entire month in order to ease the food shortages across Kenya.
Shan-E-Abbas Hassam, the Secretary General of The World Federation said, “I believe the crisis in East Africa is only going to get worse; reports suggest the weakest people are being left behind in Somalia. We are hoping to raise more funds to be sent to our partnering agency in Africa who will then deliver aid personally to those affected by this crisis.”
Mohamed, a resident of Samburu Village located in the outskirts of Mombasa, said, “As the dry season was approaching and the situation was getting difficult due to the drought, I did not know how I would provide my family.”
You can help the people of East Africa by gifting them a food parcel that will feed a family of 7 for an entire month. Your donation of £20 GBP / $32 USD-CAD will sponsor one food parcel and will ensure that this family doesn’t face any food insecurity for the duration of this month.
